fishing on a cold and snowy day

Sunday 20th January 2013

plans were mad to go fishing on Sunday 20/1/13 so we left home on a cold snowy morning it must have been about -3 with snow still laying on the ground and still the odd fine snow flake falling. So when had loaded the van we headed off to pick some one else up before we left for the pond . With thick snow and ice on the ground we took it easy all the roads were snow and ice free until we got about a mile away from the pond and then it started to get a
bit slippery we parked in a gate way as there was no chance we could get down tho the pond to park in the car park as the steep slope was covered in snow and ice a very slippery. So on to the fishing we made our way down through the snow and ice that was laying on the slope and walked on to the right hand side of the pond were we decided to fish the water was very clear and not normal for the pond as it is always coloured in the Summer and right through the winter for as long as i been fishing it and can remember. We set up and started fishing at 10am i waited quite a while for my first bite on the pole using paste over pellet or using ringers soft hooker pellet size 6mm.After very little interest the pole at 11 and a half meters i then decided to set up the feeder rodi started off using a 15grm cage feeder at mid range with pellet worm or corn fished over a bed of ground bait and micro pellet.Started getting taps on the tip then had 2 wrap round which ended with 2 carp after fishing the feeder for a bit longer i then decided to go bk on the pole after i had been topping the bait up on the pole line after putting the pole bk out and waiting about 5 Min's for a bite i hooked into a carp of around 3-4lb after taking my time to play it back in to the bank i reached for the net and before i could net it it slipped the hook i was gutted .I then went back on the feeder rod and had one more carp on it after that we then decided to pack up with snow still falling and temps being below -1 all day after packing up we weighed in as the three of us put £3 each in for the winner

1st place was Richard with 35lb9oz
2rd place was me with 9lb8oz
3 place was Wayne with 6lb10oz
we headed bk up the steep snowy slope and loaded the gear back into  the van and header home through the icy and snow we wont be going back to west pit farm at uplowman after the owner spoke to us like we were a bit of shit he was a total ass any way i will be doing a lot more match blogs in the coming weeks so check them out until next time

LAST MINUTE LURE SESSION 9-01-13

9-1-2013
While sat at home at the last minute i decided to grab my lure gear bag rod and lures and headed out in search of some monster pike on the canal . So i left home at around 1:30pm and started my lure session at the opening by William Arther's bridge (know to us anglers as the green bridge).I started off using a suspending a 19cm dirty roach 4 play lure made by savage gear i started to work my way down towards the basin while having about 5 to 6 cast around in each and working the lure around the reeds on the inside as i have had alot of hits in past lure sessions on the inside along reeds and even just under your feet as the lure is coming up to the surface.Around 40 minutes into my session i had my first hit and landed a 4lb pike and after returning the pike to its home i changed to a orange and yellow savage lure and carried on down to the basin.i got to the boat platform and had no other hits so after having a chat with a chap that rides along and always stops for a chat i changed from the orange savage lure to the savage 19cm hot copper 4 play slow sinking lure and started to make my way back towards were i started my session with no more action today i left and made my way home until the next time

short lure session on the grand western canal green bridge to tidcombe bridge
So welcome back to my blog thanks for taking the time to reed this please check out the links on my blog page and add me on face book and twitter any way back to the reason your reading this for the fishing his is going to be another short lure blog as onlymanaged to get out for a couple hours in search of some pike.I left home with the idea of fishing a stretch on my local canal that i have not fished this year for pike on the lure.As always i started off at the opening were i enter the canal at the green bridge instead of my ushal stretch down towards the basin i turned left and headed under the green bridge.I started off on a 9.5cm savage gear 4 play fire tiger lure and after casting in the first couple swims half a dozen times i had my first hit and was into my first fish of the session a small jack pike of about 1 to 1 and a half pound after returning the pike i moved on up having about 4-6 cast in each swim by the time i had got to tidcombe bay i had 6 hits and landed 5 of them all the 5 pike was from 12oz to a max of 3lb the 6th hit was a fish of around 2 lb but shook the hook at the net.I made my way up past tidcombe were there was a match angler pole fishing from exeter angling club he was doing very well fro the time of the year and what as happened on the canal in the past months and withe the water level being at its lowest due to pumps running and pipes being put on on the tiverton side any way back to the angling side.he was catching alot of small fish inc roach and skimmers and the odd very small perch he also had 4 bream early in the session he was giving the area a go to see how it is fishing as exeter team jinx got a match on this sunday coming on the tidcome to glee blends area.So after a chat with him and another pike angler that had also landed 5 pike all small like myself but he was wobbling dead baits on a single treble. After a long chat with both of then i made my way back through tidcombe dead-stretch and to the green bridge having a few more casts in between but the rain set in was starting to get dark so i called it a day and headed off home good luck to the exeter lads on sunday and until the next time tight lines

                                  short lure session

my second session of 2013 i went to my local stretch of water on the grand western canal for a short lure session in search of some pike . I started off on a mark known as the green bridge and (William Arther's bridge) i started my session by using a savage gear 13 cm soft four play lure in which i had my 1st follow on buy i recast and had no further interest from the small jack . So after about another half a mile using this lure i decided to change over to a new lure i had not used before which is again a savage gear 13cm hot copper lure (pic bellow) after changing to this lure within 3 to 4 cast i had a hit on the inside along a large over hanging reed bed and went on to land a jack of around 2 to 4 lb after returning the pike to the canal i moved on up the bank having 2 or 6 cast in each spot. After around 45 mins of walking up through and casting in each available spot i had a second hit and landed a pike of around 2 to 2 and a half pound on the same lure i then decided it was time to slowly make my way bk so i walked back through the canal bank casting in most spots on the way back but had no more action so i left the canal and headed home hope u enjoyed this blog please leave comments below and until next time
