Punch fishing on the grand western canal

1st November 2013

Welcome back to this blog again fishing on the grand western canal my self and collin decided to fish on the canal today the 1st of November 2013 it was a cold Sunday morning we met up at tidcombe bends at around 9:15 we had a look up at the left hand side of the outlet pipe but it did not look very good as the water level was very low at the moment for some reason the flood gates are still slightly open we decided to go back and fish slightly back round the bends just to the left side of the power cables.I decided to fish the right hand side of collin we started by setting all our gear up slowly as there was no rush i was going to set up 2 match top 3 kits one was a top 3 kit with number 3 white latex elastic through just the top  section and the other one was also a match top 3 with a number 3 to 4 purple middy hi-viz again through just the top  section. After getting out the 2 rigs i was going to use and started plumbing up i started by plumbing up my first rig on my left hand side it was not very deep but i plumbed it up dead depth and marked it up on the top kit and got my other rig ready  to plumb up on my right hand side of me were i plumbed up on the right was the same depth at the left hand swim so now with both tops ready and plumbed up it was time to feed i was feeding a cup of liquidized on both swims but i also fed a small amount of dead maggots on the right hand swim as well but was not going to put any on the left hand swim and see how it fished after feeding i left it for a while and walked up to have a chat with Collin and to see how he was doing he was still plumbing up at about 4 meters to his left and with the same rig he plumbed up in front at about 6 plus meters so he only had  to use one top as both swims were the same depth after a little chat and a drink it was time to go back to my swim and have a go i started off on a 4mm bread punch and waited about 4-8 Min's before missing my first bite i am not going to write loads about how the day went as it was very slow i ended up with only 14 fish all between 1 and 3 oz fish all the fish were very tiny i did pull out of a good fish which could have been a good skimmer bream or a good roach Collin lost 2 good fish but only had one roach at the end of the session it was a very hard days fishing today but until the next time if your out on the bank be safe and tight line
