I decided it was time for a change and to start fish the waggler as i haven't fished it on the canal for 3 or more years so i found a really nice looking swim which was quite wide on the edge of a turning bay with a large over hanging tree on the left and a gave in middle with a weed bed to the right but the swim was so over grown u couldn't get in to it this is why i like the look of it as i knew the swim had not been fished for many years as it had been grown over a long as i can remember .So i decided to go up the night befor and cut out a clear swim and just cut the bank side so i could get in to fish and make room for a keep net after cutting the swim out i decided to put some bait in i feed a whole loaf of mashed bread between the tree and the weed bed i went up and fished it the next day i was using a dawia harriea 13foot match rod with a shimano 4000 reel with a 3lb 5oz mainline with a drennan 5bb insert Crystal waggler to a 2.9oz hook length to a size 14 animal hook. i fished the whole session with just bread and sweet corn i ended up with a net of 5 bream and lost 2 skimmers but like i said earlier in this blog i haven't fish the waggler for the last 3 or so years but i must admit i did also miss about 10 or more bites. i also fished the same peg early the next morning at 4am for a short morning session fishing it the same way as the night befor with a waggler and the same set up as befor on the same spot over a large amount of mashed bread fishing on the bread and the corn in this short morning session i only had the 2 bream out and lost one but still missed 5 bites (so i am getting better ;)lol) but the last two day i have really enjoyed fishing this way on the rod again and i plan to do it more over the next few weeks i think that fishing the waggler with the flake over the mashed bread is the best way of fishing on the canal for the skimmers bream and the tench until my next blog if your out on the bank tight lines .
